The client wanted to improve consistency across a department supporting multiple complex weapons programmes.
Over time, individual programmes had developed their own processes, tools and ways of working. This meant that moving people between programmes could require considerable familiarisation, even when the underlying systems engineering activities and skills were similar.
The organisation wanted to explore how its core processes, skill sets and tools could be better aligned. Greater consistency had the potential to make expertise more transferable, reduce unnecessary relearning and help the department respond more effectively as programme demands changed.
The work required a partner that could understand a complex organisation quickly, distinguish between legitimate programme-specific requirements and opportunities for standardisation, and apply relevant lessons from elsewhere in defence.

This included considering how processes, skills and tools could be aligned while continuing to accommodate the particular technical and assurance requirements of individual weapons programmes.

This work helps ensure that the evidence required for systems to be released for trials, supplied to the customer or approved for a defined use is accurate and fit for purpose.
Although the requirement differed from the original assignment, our team’s extensive experience included proven expertise in verification and validation. This enabled us to understand the new context quickly and begin contributing to assigned work within a matter of days.
